Archaeological Excavations Begin at the Medieval Aktobe-Laeti Settlement
In accordance with the 2026 work plan of the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, museum staff are currently conducting archaeological excavations at the medieval Aktobe-Laeti settlement, located on the outskirts of Atyrau.
A distinctive feature of this year’s archaeological season is that the research is being carried out jointly with specialists from the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the A.Kh. Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.
The archaeological fieldwork is scheduled to last 15 days. At present, specialists from both institutes are conducting exploratory test pit excavations in different areas of the Aktobe-Laeti settlement to identify the most promising locations for further archaeological research.
